Love the Shoe - Hate the Heel

Can anyone explain to me the obsession with making the heels on shoes look as tacky as possible by 'blinging' them up stripper stylee?
I just don't understand it, I think these shoes are amazing but so let down by the high gloss heel. Perhaps I'm on my own here but I just feel this detail brings the look down - what do we think people?

I can't see the appeal with high shine, glossy heels either, although I did once own a fab pair of Stuart Weitzman boots in pink python with a sliver of silver metal on the heel which was cool, but the whole heel wasn't high shine.
